BACKSTORY
Around 2007, Fender added Blizzard Pearl Metallic and Charcoal Frost Metallic to their American Standard lineup. I really loved both of those colors because of their complexity. I ended up putting Blizzard Pearl on my custom Snowburst Strat, and buying an American Standard in the same color for someone as a birthday gift. Later on, I kept seeing talk about Clapton's Ferrari Gray Strats and it re-ignited the lust for Charcoal Frost. So I got one.
As someone who loves designing custom guitars, I think it's important to have an American Standard as a baseline and play with pickup combos. I never liked the stock pickups on these though. I put David Gilmour EMGs on it for a while, but I didn't like the weird control layout on the set. Just about 10 years later I decided to go crazy with some DiMarzio's. 2 years after that it was Lace Sensors to commemorate a guitar that got away.
