BACKSTORY
Praise be the algorithm!
I lucked out with this one on Reverb. Getting a Torino Red Clapton Strat has been on my bucket list for a few years for all the right reasons. It’s Fender’s first signature model and it was created to be Clapton’s stage successor to "Blackie". With such high hopes, it piqued the curiosities of many players- especially other rockstars. The features make it the ultimate 50's style Strat but I think they liked the funky colors (Ferrari Red, 7-up Green, Mercedes Blue, Mercedes Charcoal, etc.). I’ve seen this guitar model in countless famous hands live and in behind the scenes studio clips. Most recently with Daryl Stuermer (who played another '88 in Torino Red).
It is an early example of the model, being the 45th one made in the premier year if we follow the serial numbers. The neck was shaped, dated, and stamped by Fender Custom Shop “Uberbuilder” Scott Buehl. Even at the journeyman level you can tell Scotty was a fiercely meticulous builder.
I felt comfortable with it immediately, as if I had it since '88, but I don't think my crib was big enough for the both of us.
