orange
thunderverb 50
SPECS
- 50 watts
- Valve-driven spring reverb
- Built-in attenuator
- 2x EL34 Power tubes
- Orange Limited Edition 2009 White 2x12 cab
BACKSTORY
I really wanted the Randy Rhoads Marshall 1959, but I couldn't get one to save my life. After I accepted my failure, I came to my senses and realized that 100 watts of tube power would be too much for my living room.
The Orange Rockerverb 50 and the Thunderverb 50 were the next candidates. Thunderverb 50 won because it had a built in attenuator and it sounds good with a bass plugged into it. In hindsight, it was the best decision for me. I could really work the amp without the side effect of blazing loud volume.
The real elephant in the room is the reverb tank. If you put the reverb dial past 12 o'clock, you are playing whale music. It literally sounds like psychedelic underwater soundscapes. Really trippy stuff.
